Large Yellow Tamegroute Vase

Large Yellow Tamegroute Vase

Large Yellow Tamegroute Vase

This iconic item is instantly recognisable as a classic Moroccan design and colour.

These very special items are ideal for display as a piece of art or as a vase for dried foliage (this item is not waterproof)

Made in Morocco in the village of Tamegroute this range is characterised by its distinctive irregular green glaze.

Found close to Tamegroute is a riverbank source for the clay used in this historic pottery. Each piece is hand-thrown and shaped then fired in one of the village kilns using wood fire. The glaze is hand-mixed from locally sourced minerals like copper oxide to achieve a distinctive green colour.

The glazing process is very organic, and the colour varies from item to item. It is perfectly normal for there to be many areas of 'imperfection' across the surfaces of the bowl.

There are areas where the glaze is missing for example and there are pitted marks which are dull and unglazed as well as raised particles within the glaze. It is not possible to create matching sets by colour.

The charm of these items is their very primitive nature - please expect areas to be rough to the touch irregular surfaces.

Care of Tamegroute pottery

This type of pottery is not suitable for a dishwasher and should be wiped down with a damp soapy soft cloth. Do not soak in water.
