Large antique Shanxi preserve pot planter




Made from earthenware / glazed ceramic these stunning and very heavy pots are robust and tall.

Shanxi province. Each totally unique tremendous pots were once used as storage vessels and to ferment or pickle foods and liquids such as soy sauce or rice wine or rice wine vinegar. 

The glaze is dark and slighly irridescant with the predominant hue being black with a hint of ochre, green and blue to their uniquely hand glazed and fired surfaces.  The rim is unglazed. 

Each hand made pot differs slightly from the next in patina and staple positioning.

These pots can be used as impressive planters indoors or a simply sculptural floor standing peice of art.  They could be placed outside for the spring, summer and autumn, but needs to be protected from frost or bought inside during the winter season.  No drainage hole present however you can drill one upon delivery. 

These pots have rustic imperfections and blemishes as they are over 150 years old. Condition is very good for the age of the piece. 

Each jar has decorative ridges at the base which are embossed and likley to allow the pot to be gripped more effectively.

Featuring an unglazed rim and speckled with imperfections, this large pot exemplifies the timeless appeal of handcrafted pottery and is a wonderful option as a planter or centerpiece vessel.

Courier Delivery

Delivery will take place via door-to-door courier as this item is too large and heavy, long or fragile to be delivered in a parcel by any of the UK parcel providers.

This service is undertaken by a one man delivery service.  

Please be prepared to help to move the item from the van or lorry to just inside your door. When delivery takes place it will be to just inside the threshold of your home only.  

The courier will not be able to carry the furniture up or down steps to access your property.

You will need to supply a very, very strong helper to assist on the day of delivery.

After the courier has left you will need to remove the item from its packaging when present and carry it from your doorway into your home or garden.  

Delivery is added at the checkout - you will be able to view this charge before you pay
