Antique Shipwreck Vase | Sawankhalok 824010
Antique Shipwreck Vase | Sawankhalok 824010
Originating from Thailand in South East Asia these stunning ceramics were salvaged from a Shipwreck found between China and Indonesia.
This unique vessel has accumulated marine encrustations upon every surface. Barnacles, coral and calcium deposits cover the surfaces of the pot.
The pot would have originally been glazed but the passage of time and tides has worn this away etching the external surfaces to a matt finish. This has allowed marine life to grip the surfaces and take hold. Each pot undoubtedly provided a safe harbour for small fish and aquatic creatures for hundreds of years. Some pots have shells and coral inside them too.
Each pot is both a work of art and a time capsule of marine archeology.
Made from decorated fine porcelain the vessel itself was beautifully made and lightweight, over time the vase has become heavy with calcim and marine deposits.
