Antique Shipwreck Ring Handle Jar | Sukhothai 03

Antique Shipwreck Ring Handle Jar | Sukhothai 03

This jar features a low belly with a grenade shape and horizontal rings, along with a notable flared top. Originally, it would have had a brown glaze, but after spending several hundred years in the ocean, the glaze has eroded into a matte finish. Each ceramic pot was handcrafted in the Thai kingdom of Sukhothai in the early to mid-17th century and has been recovered from a 17th-century shipwreck in Southeast Asia.

The jar has collected marine life on its surfaces while submerged, including tiny black and white coral fragments, as well as calcium and sodium deposits, showcasing its age and history. The eroded glaze gives the jar the appearance of warm sandstone, and in some cases, has allowed marine life to grow on its surface.

Crafted from fine porcelain, each vessel is not only an artistic masterpiece but also a time capsule of maritime archaeology. Please note that these items are in good condition but will have blemishes and imperfections due to their age and historic recovery. Kindly refer to the images for more details
